1. Basic Rules

Sichuan Mahjong only uses 108 tiles made up of three suits (Circles, Characters & Bamboos) each numbered one to nine.

You can only Pong & Kong. No Chi’s allowed.

A player, who runs out of chips in the middle of the hand, is eliminated instantly. He has to close his hand and the remaining players continue.

2.Declaring the missing suit

Before the game starts, every player needs to opt out one of the 3 suits (Circles, Characters & Bamboos).

You can ONLY have up to 2 suits in your winning hand or there’s a penalty if you still have three.

To declare the missing suit, every player places a tile face down in the river. After every player has made their declaration, the dealer will then turn over the tile and the game starts.

3. Winning

Sichuan Mahjong is played as a “Battle to the End,” ( 血战到底 xuè zhàn dào dǐ ) so when one player declares mahjong the three remaining players continue. Then when the next

player declares mahjong, the two remaining continue to fight it out until one is remaining and the game ends.

4. Kong (4 of a kind)

You get instant rewards as soon as you declare a Kong. There are three types of Kong and each has a different value:

Concealed Kong - Every remaining player pays 2x blind

Big exposed Kong - Discarder pays 2x blind

Small exposed Kong - Every remaining player pays 1x blind *

*To receive rewards, Kong needs to be declared as soon as you pick up. Once the tile is inserted into your hand, declaring a small exposed kong will not receive any rewards.

5. Penalties

If your hand contains all 3 suits or wrong suit – x64 to every remaining player

If you do not form a calling hand, you need to pay all remaining players the maximum potential hand value

False win: you need to pay all affected players double their hand value

Long or short hand - no penalty but you can’t pong, kong or mahjong
